- What Is Binge Drinking? Binge alcohol use is defined as drinking five or more drinks on the same occasion on at least 1 day in the past 30 days (from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health [NSDUH]). Heavy drinking is defined as binge drinking on at least 5 days in the past month.
- The behavior of alcohol abusers and the consequences of that behavior are better indicators of alcoholism than how often or how much alcohol a person may drink.
- Men are almost twice as likely as women to drive a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and to be involved in a fatal collision.
- It takes at least a hour for the average person to burn up the alcohol in one standard drink.
